Nationalization after 1944 changed the fate of businesses and entrepreneurs, while philanthropy and foundations — which had supported education, culture, and various public causes — gradually disappeared from public life. We will trace how these changes affected economic and civic life, what happened after the end of the regime, and how businesses and foundations began to reclaim their place in society. What role do business, philanthropy, and foundations play today, and how can they contribute to a resilient democratic environment?
