The Bloody Countess

An eccentric horror-comedy by director Ulrike Ottinger, based on texts by Nobel laureate Elfriede Jelinek, starring Isabelle Huppert as Countess Elizabeth (Erzsébet) Báthory. Together with her maid, the countess sets off on a baroque adventure through Vienna in search of the elixir of life, pursued by her vegetarian nephew, his psychotherapist, two vampirologists, a police inspector and other colourful characters. A grotesque and theatrical tale, screened as part of the CineLibri film-and-literature festival.
