Juli

"Juli" tells the story of Mitko, who years earlier lost his younger brother Juli. In the final months of his life, while ill, Juli found comfort only in learning to play the bagpipe. After his death, Mitko takes up the instrument himself and sets out on a journey in his brother's memory — from their native village of Trigrad in the Rhodope Mountains, where the bagpipe reveals itself as more than an instrument, becoming a spiritual bridge between people, cultures and generations, through the village of Gela and its master bagpipe-makers, all the way to Los Angeles, linking Bulgaria and California. The documentary is about memory, hope, and music's power to connect people across time and distance.
