Invitation to Dinner

"Invitation to Dinner" is a tragicomedy based on a play by Olya Stoyanova, directed by Thea Sugareva at Sofia Theatre. Behind the strict rituals of a formal dinner — a three-course menu, formal dress, punctuality — the distances between people and their crumbling relationships gradually come into view. The play explores a peculiar state of loneliness in which a person feels alone among their own and a stranger among strangers, even within their own family, and suggests that the only way to save a relationship from its sharp edges is to keep talking to one another.
