Wanderings Through History: Photographs by Ulrich Wüst

For the fourth time, Goethe-Institut Bulgaria and Sofia City Art Gallery put the focus on contemporary German photography — with an exhibition of Ulrich Wüst. It brings together more than 120 archival photographs, mostly black-and-white pigment prints. Wüst’s professional experience as an urban planner and photo editor shapes his characteristic photographic approach — analytical, precise and rigorously composed — with his interest directed not at historical ruins or the traces of war but at the absurdities and contradictions produced by urban planning: the destruction of existing architecture, indiscriminate building and the clumsy transformation of the urban environment. The exhibition’s catalogue of the same title, published by Spector Books, can be purchased during the show; a curatorial tour by Matthias Flüge on 12 September, 4 pm, and tours led by art historian Zheni Decheva on 3 and 31 October and 21 November, at 4 pm, are also planned.
