Romeo and Juliet, a Sonnet of Immortal Love

An experimental reworking of Shakespeare by Sofia University's Theatre Laboratory "Alma Alter," directed by Nikolay Georgiev as part of the "Shakespeare — Contemporary and Cruel" programme. The staging is minimalist, in the style of "poor theatre" — no sets, with the focus on the body, the voice and live presence on stage. Choreography is by Petya Yosifova, music by Konstantin Kuchev. The story explores love under the pressures of the modern world — generational, cultural and ideological conflict — with the actors rejecting a traditional reading of their roles.
