The Barrier

"The Barrier" is a guest production by the Plovdiv Drama Theatre, based on Pavel Vezhinov's novella of the same name — one of the most iconic works of 20th-century Bulgarian literature. This stage adaptation, in the mode of mystical realism and directed by Kris Sharkov, tells an unconventional love story between a film composer in creative crisis and a mysterious girl with heightened sensitivity and unusual abilities. The play meditates on the many barriers around and within us — between perception and connection, between society's imposed "normality" and the miraculous.
