The Hero from Friedrichstrasse Station

"The Hero from Friedrichstrasse Station" follows Micha, the owner of a failing video rental shop whose stalled life is upended when, on the 30th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, a journalist casts him as the mastermind behind the largest mass escape from East Germany. The sudden media attention draws him into a web of half-truths and lies. Directed by Wolfgang Becker and Achim von Borries from a screenplay by Konstantin Lieb and Wolfgang Becker, based on a novel by Maxim Leo, the film won the Ernst Lubitsch Award for Direction (posthumously) in 2026 and received three German Film Academy nominations. The screening is part of the Cinelibri film-literature festival.
