Die Walküre

"Die Walküre" is the second opera in Richard Wagner's four-part cycle "The Ring of the Nibelung," staged at Sofia Opera by director Plamen Kartalov. The story centers on the god Wotan, tormented by his theft of the ring, the forbidden love between the mortal twins Siegmund and Sieglinde, and the rebellion of the Valkyrie Brünnhilde, who defies her father to protect the lovers and is punished with an eternal sleep surrounded by fire. As part of Sofia Opera's full staging of Wagner's tetralogy, it offers one of the most emotionally charged and musically rich chapters of the cycle.
