Open Wednesday: How We Tell Stories of Violence
14:00 · Czech Centre Sofia · Център

The historic "Memory" tram follows Sofia's central axis, where key places tied to the repression and mechanisms of communist power are located. The route along tram lines Nos. 12 and 18 passes the former Directorate of the People's Militia and State Security, the Party House and the so-called "triangle of power", the Palace of Justice and a number of other sites marked by political trials, violence and control, as well as places tied to ideological censorship and control of freedom of movement, and to the counterculture that emerged in the 1980s — "Popa", "Sinyoto", the first informal exhibitions and cafés. The ride shows Sofia as few people know it — and fewer still remember — through its traces of the communist era.
