About

"A Cry from History. Ekaterina Karavelova" is a production on the Chamber Stage "Mirakul" dedicated to the life of Ekaterina Karavelova (1860-1947), one of the most significant Bulgarian public figures of her time. As the wife of Prime Minister Petko Karavelov, she stood beside him through key moments in Bulgarian politics, including the Unification of 1885. She founded and for many years chaired the Bulgarian Women's Union, and also led the Bulgarian section of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom. A prolific translator, she brought the works of Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Hugo and Flaubert into Bulgarian, and during World War II she took part in efforts to protect Bulgaria's Jews. The production follows the life of this strong, determined woman, who endured deep personal loss yet remained true to her causes to the end.
