Orange-Flavoured Wedding

"A Wedding with a Taste of Orange" is a film by French director and screenwriter Christophe Honoré, adapting his own 2021 stage play "Le Ciel de Nantes" ("The Sky of Nantes"), which he describes as an artistic recreation of memories of his own family. The story follows the wedding of Jacques, the youngest of the seven Pujag family children — his father is absent, estranged from the family, but his siblings gather joyfully, and the film asks whether the love between Jacques and his wife Martine can heal the wounds of childhood. A parallel storyline unfolds in Tokyo, where a small act of kindness between a Chinese worker and a Turkish woman, Leila, during a document check grows into a story about alienation, migration, and the difficulty of finding oneself in a world defined by formal borders and procedures.
