The Different One

"The Different One" is a tragicomedy based on Alexei Slapovsky about a lifelong bachelor who vowed to marry within twelve years and answers an unusual personal ad: a young, beautiful, wealthy woman looking for an ugly, poor man to make happy. Trying to turn himself from love's overlooked casualty into its victor, he grows ever more demanding and crude as the woman attempts her good deed. The play asks whether happiness is too hard a test for a weak person — and who is really "the different one."
